Located symbolically in the cenotaph cemetery, Peace and Dove brings a message of hope and harmony in a world of worry and division. At around 4m tall, standing under her calm gaze, we may feel small, but protected. Her large beating heart shows that she is full of love. Her outstretched wings represent the desire for flight and freedom. At night, Peace and Dove is awash with an ever-changing spectrum of colour in a celebration of light and delight in diversity.
Working with Designs in Air, Filthy Luker creates larger-than-life site-specific art installations that have been enjoyed around the world for three decades. Their work is often humourous and playful, whereas Peace and Dove has a deeper, more heart-felt presence. The purity of the dove, a symbol of peace, radiant with rainbows, hopes to inspire hope and awe. All you need is Dove.
Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas are driven by their passion for innovative inflatable design, public art and mischievous intervention. The duo have time again proven to be pioneers in the inflatable medium as well as carving themselves a unique niche in the international Street Art movement with their larger than life creations and anarchic humour. Their pop-up pieces never fail to turn heads, transforming the mundane into the surreal and often downright ridiculous with their outlandish installations.
“Our main motive is to make the world a more surreal and colourful place as a kind of vendetta against the mundane, concrete world we live in. With the ability to blow up giant objects almost anywhere in a matter of minutes, the installations work as beautiful shock-tactics, grabbing the public’s attention. We love to spice up the daily grind and disrupt city skylines with some artful light-hearted anarchy.”
